Airline Company Frequencies Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport (AVP)
Although I am not “into” the aircraft band, I thought I’d listen for a while to add some info for those that may find it interesting.
In addition to the frequencies listed for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport (AVP) that control traffic in and out, there are airline company AM frequencies in the ranges of 128.8250-132.0000 and 136.5000-136.9750. These are used to communicate with ground stations at airports. Conversations on these frequencies are not as formal as those used to communicate with air traffic controllers but are more like a telephone call to the concierge at a hotel. As such, they can be considered boring to some.
When aircraft are within 20-30 minutes of their destination, they call in on these to report equipment malfunctions, delays, rerouting, and the special needs, such as wheelchairs and un-accompanied minors(UUM). Sometimes, when they are about 10 minutes off the ground on their trip away from the airport, they call back with the times they were off the gate, and off the ground, and something to do with fuel burned. Below are a few frequencies that I found for AVP. Notice there are multiple airlines on one frequency, probably because this is a small airport and these are small feeder airlines.
AVP 128.9250 Continental (CommutAir) 130.1000 Delta (Atlantic Southeast) & US Air (PSA/Piedmont ) 130.1250 Delta (Comair/Chautauqua/Atlantic Southeast) & Continental(ComnutAir) 130.7500 United Airlines (Mesa)
Company UHF Freq On the ground, there may also be company frequencies in the 460.675 - 460.900 range. Often, you can learn of flight delays, cancellations, or gate changes on the 460 freq’s before it is announced. The following have been extracted from the FCC database for AVP, but I am too far away to confirm any. Please let me know if you have others, or can confirm any of these. 460.8000 / 465.8000 US Air 460.8750 / 465.8750 US Air 460.6500 / 465.6500 ComAir 464.8875 / 469.8875 ComAir 460.6500 / 465.6500 Sky West
Note: you can also find other air-related frequencies used around a major airport by doing a Geo Search for the lon/lat of your airport. Go to: 1. wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchGeographic.jsp 2. Enter the Lat/Lon of the airport (from AirNav) 3. I.E. For Wilkes-Bare 41-20-18.0 N, 075-43-29.0 W 4. Enter radius of 1 Kilometer 5. Hit the search.
