Welcome to the world of scanning. You could ease into this without ANY expense by listening to what they call Live Feed. This is where someone puts their scanner audio out on the Internet. There are 2 such feeds which should launch Windows Media player: www.geocities.com/luzernelivebroadcast/lcib.asxwww.geocities.com/luzernecountyemergencyservices/LCES.asxFor reasons which are not clear to me, they both seem to have periods where either they are down, or a few channels are not working. These are the channels for the 2nd link: Fire & Amb Dispatch-157.450 WestSide-154.295 FireEast- 155.865 FireNorth- 154.145 FireSouth- 154.325 BackMtn- 154.355 Mtn-Top- 154.415 Fire/Amb- 159.465 LifeFlight- 453.125 WilkesBarre-155.940 Plymouth-154.445 The 1st one is similar, but I don't think it has quite as many. However, these are both about Fire and EMS, so no police. As for scanners, you can get a basic unit from either Uniden or Radio Shack for $70-$100 which will get all the stuff in this area. Uniden also sells Like New, which are great buys and just as good as new. Of course, there are lots of stores on the net that discount mostly Uniden. Here's a Here's a guide to get started. Of course, look at the topics of FREQUENCIES OF INTEREST on this site to get an idea of what you could listen to that are not on the live feeds. Note: You do not need Digital, Trunking, or 800mHz for this area.
